The combustion situation of the inclined reciprocating grate is similar to that of the chain grate, also using segmented air supply and appropriately adding secondary air, making the combustion process sectional. Coal descends from the coal hopper and moves slowly along the inclined grate surface from the front upper side to the back lower side, with air supplied from below to above. The heat required for coal ignition mainly comes from the furnace, going through various stages such as drying, drying out, volatile ignition, coke combustion, and ash burnout, all of which are the same as those of the chain grate.
A major characteristic that distinguishes the inclined reciprocating grate from the chain grate is the relative motion between the grate and the coal. When the moving grate pushes backward, some new coal is pushed to the upper part of the already burning coal. When the moving grate returns forward, it brings back some of the already burning coal to the bottom of the unburned coal, heating the new coal. This ignition condition is similar to that of hand-fired furnaces and is superior to chain furnaces. During the pushing process, the coal is continuously compressed, thereby breaking the coke blocks and ash shells. At the same time, the coal rolls slowly, allowing the coal layer to loosen and flatten, which is beneficial for combustion.
Advantages and disadvantages of the inclined reciprocating grate
(1)Advantages of the inclined reciprocating grate
1)Compared to the chain grate, it is suitable for burning low-quality coal with high moisture and ash content and low calorific value (12560kJ/kg) and generally easy to coking coal.
2)When the supplied air volume is reasonable and the leakage air volume is low, the carbon content in the ash is generally between 18% and 20%, which is 5% to 10% lower than that of the ash from hand-fired furnaces, saving coal and reducing black smoke.
3)The structure is simple, easy to manufacture, with low metal consumption and less power consumption.
(2)Disadvantages of the inclined reciprocating grate
1)Due to the inclination of the grate, the furnace body is tall.
2)The particle size requirement for coal is strict, with a diameter generally not exceeding 40mm; otherwise, it is difficult to burn through.
3)The grate plates in the high-temperature zone are in contact with the red-hot coal layer for a long time, making them prone to damage.
4)The adaptability to changes in boiler load is poor, suitable only for boilers with an evaporation capacity of less than 40t/h.
5)Coal leakage is quite serious. To overcome the disadvantage of the tall body of the inclined reciprocating grate, improvements have been made towards a horizontal reciprocating grate, achieving certain effects.
