The main feature that distinguishes the inclined reciprocating grate from the chain grate is the relative movement between the grate and the coal. When the moving grate pushes backward and downward, some new coal is pushed to the top of the already burning coal. When the moving grate returns forward and upward, it brings back a portion of the already burning coal to the bottom of the unburned coal, heating the new coal.

How many types of grates are there?
Their grate plates are shaped like chain links, connected by round steel to form a wide chain belt. The grate's drive includes gearbox transmission, intermittent hydraulic transmission, and thyristor stepless speed regulation transmission, among others.
